Agrium Products Inc. operates a phosphate fertilizer manufacturing facility in Redwater Alberta. It stores phosphogypsum, a by-product of its manufacturing process, in a controlled storage area adjacent to the plant.
Agrium applied to Alberta Environment for approval under the Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and the Water Act to extend its storage area. The company was required to prepare an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report, which it completed and submitted to Alberta Environment in early April.
The project was referred on April 13th, to the Natural Resources Conservation Board by Order in Council OC 184/2003 pursuant to section 4F of the Natural Resources Conservation Board Act and therefore requires NRCB approval.
